1955 Victress S1A Roadster for sale

$49,990.00
  • For Sale Victress S1A, a super rare car that can be yours for a fraction of the price.

You may not be familiar with the Victress S1A Roadster, but it’s an impressive piece of early 1950s American engineering. This car was the brainchild of a group of men from 1950’s who shared a dream of building their own automobile.

Although these American Specials are rare, this particular model is in relatively good condition, with only some work needed to make it truly one-of-a-kind for its new owner.

The Victress Manufacturing Company, based in California, was established in 1952. Its first model, the S1A, was designed by Hugh Jorgensen and William “Doc” Boyce-Smith. The Victress S1A was built on a variety of chassis designs, and it typically featured a small-block Chevrolet engine. It came in either a 99 or 94 inch wheelbase. The bodies came from Victress with hinged panels such as the hood, doors and trunk. Since the S1A was fitted on a variety of chassis no two cars were alike. From the factory they came with either a Ford frame or a custom unit from Mameco Corp.

One Victress S1A made an appearance in the 1954 movie Johnny Dark, which starred Tony Curtis and Piper Laurie (see the poster below). Fewer than 50 Victress coupes were sold in the 1950s, and the only distributor was the Hellings Company in North Hollywood.

In 1961, the molds were purchased by Les Dawes (LaDawri), who renamed the Victress as LaDawri and rebranded the models. If you come across a LaDawri, you may see similarities to the Victress.

The Victress S1A debuted in 1952 and remains highly collectible

    Featuring:

Oldsmobile Rocket V8 engine that will turn over,

    Dedion custom rear suspension setup,

    Tubular Mameco custom frame,

Super rare, catalog item – hard roof.
